Obituary

Mrs. Bertha Weaver Newberry, age 105 of Ellijay, GA, went to be home with the Lord on Thursday, December 26th, 2024 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, GA.

Mrs. Newberry was born on December 11th, 1919 in Gilmer County to the late John "Pink" Pinkney Weaver and Theodocia Weaver. She was the Postmaster of Marion, GA in Bucktown, and of the Baptist faith. Described by her family, Mrs. Newberry was the "the rose to their garden." In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Escolee Odell Newberry; son, Frankie Newberry; daughter, Vernice Newberry; siblings, Arlin Weaver, Buford Weaver, Florence Kimsey, Ruby Mooney, and Artie Newberry.

Mrs. Newberry is survived by her son, Danny Newberry; daughters and sons-in-law, Wilma (Layton) Green, Tamer (Dan) Southern, Thelma Champion, Faye Mansfield, Vickie McClure, and Vera Southern; sister, Evelyn Knight; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Newberry will be held on Monday, December 30th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with grandson-in-law, Rev. David Nicholson, and grandson, Tony Newberry officiating. Graveside Interment will follow in the Newberry Family Cemetery. Mrs. Newberry's grandsons, great-grandsons, and great-great-grandsons will be serving as pallbearers and honorary pall bearers.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 29th, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Monday, December 30th, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour of 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers and Food will be accepted in memory of Mrs. Bertha Weaver Newberry.
