Mrs. Betty Jean Waddell, age 89 of the Cartecay Community, passed away on Friday, November 24th, 2023 at her residence.
Mrs. Waddell was born on July 28th, 1934 in Gilmer County to the late Willard P. Woody and Bertha Burnett Woody. Mrs. Waddell was a wonderful baker known for her famous chicken-n-dumplings, carrot cake, and so much more. She was an avid member of the Cartecay United Methodist Church and the Cartecay Women of Faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Waddell is preceded in death by her loving husband, Farish Albert Waddell, and three brothers, Ernest Woody, James Woody, and Donnie Woody.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Waddell of the Cartecay Community and Dennis (Sarah) Waddell of the Cartecay Community; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee Waddell (Tom) Walker; two brothers, Edwin Woody of the Cartecay Community and Tommy (Linda) Woody of Peachtree City; one sister, Francine Woody Stanley of Ellijay; 7 grandchildren, Amber (Chris) Ivey, Jason (Sherry) Waddell, Brittany (Sam) Smith, Amie Walker, Courtney (Adam) Hayes, Melodie (Hunter) Queen, and Mason Waddell; and 4 great-grandchildren, Breelan Waddell, Colson Waddell, Sawyer Ivey, and Cadence Ivey also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 27th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Cartecay United Methodist Church with Rev. Heather Nysewander and Rev. Harden Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in the Cartecay UMC Cemetery. The gentlemen serving as pallbearers will include: Scott Waddell, Dennis Waddell, Tom Walker, Jason Waddell, Mason Waddell, and Larry Mullinax.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 26th, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The following day, Mrs. Waddell will Lie-in-State at the Cartecay United Methodist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 2:00 p.m.
The family respectfully asks that no food or flowers be brought to the funeral home. However, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cartecay UMC Cemetery Fund at 7629 Hwy. 52 E Ellijay, GA 30536, the Cartecay Women of Faith at 7629 Hwy. 52 E Ellijay, GA 30536, or the St. Judes Children Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Betty Jean Waddell.
