Billy Max McGhee
February 28, 1938 – March 31, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Billy Max McGhee on March 31, 2026, at the age of 88.

Billy was born on February 28, 1938, in Whitestone, Georgia, to the late Jack and Estie McGhee. He lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family. Billy honorably served his country for four years in the United States Air Force and went on to enjoy a long and faithful 38-year career with Lockheed Martin.

Billy had a lifelong passion for motorcycles. In his younger years, he loved riding trail bikes, and later in life, he found great joy in traveling on one of his many Gold Wings. Whether on the open road or surrounded by those he loved most, Billy embraced life with a quiet strength and adventurous spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jimmy and Sammy McGhee; and his sisters, Janice Stancil, Jane McGhee, Sue Payne, and Diane Towery.

Billy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of those who knew him best. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife of 63 years, Charlene; his daughter, Tammy (Lonnie) Leech; his son, Max (Jennifer) McGhee; his grandchildren, Crystal (Martin) Collier, Andy (Jennica) Johnson, Jackson McGhee, Naomi McGhee, Aidan Griggs, and Heather Leech; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Emma, Ella, and Ben Collier, and Ansley and Cali Johnson.

Though he will be greatly missed, his love, strength, and memory will live on in the lives of his family forever.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 12th at 3 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow immediately after the service from the Whitestone Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
