Mrs. Carolyn Byers Scruggs, age 85 of Ellijay, passed away on Tuesday, April 4 ^th , 2023.

Carolyn was born on July 23 ^rd , 1937 in Hayesville, North Carolina to the late John Byers and Betty Painter Byers. She worked as a nurse for many years at Watkins Memorial Hospital and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Edward Scruggs, two sisters, Wanda Lanita Thomas and Mary Ellen Searcy.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Nancy Chastain and Carroll and Lori Chastain; son, Jeff Chastain. Stepsons; Edward Scruggs III, John Scruggs and Bill Scruggs; and three granddaughters, Melissa Pritchett, Katherine (Justin) Mize, and Lauren Chastain; as well as 4 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 5 ^th , 2023 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with ­Rev. Dan Rosser officiating. Interment will follow in the Yukon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour of 4:00 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted, however the family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home.
