Mrs. Clara Ogal Nelson, 86 of Ellijay, died Monday, February 3rd, 2025.
She was born March 17, 1938, in Murray County to the late Dewey Cardd and Audrey Bell Cardd.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Howard Nelson; mother and father Dewey Cardd and Audrey Bell Cardd, and brother Thomas Cardd.
Clara was a devout member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She worked for the 9th District Opportunities for 30 years and a few years for the Gilmer County School System. She was an avid quilter, quilting hundreds of quilts throughout the years.
She is survived by her siblings, Stella Charles, Martha (Richard) Pracht, Jimmy Cardd, Linda (Jerry) Rackley, Arlean (Randy) Cronan, and Lorene (Johnny) Martin; daughters, Teresa (Roy) Allen of Ellijay, Charlotte (Wayne) Osborne of Ooltewah, TN, and son Rickey (Stephanie) Nelson of Ellijay; grandchildren Candrice (Charles) Palmour, Kristin (David) Taffin, Ashley (Chris) Barr, Ashley (Sam) Low, Lori (Casey) Brandon, Lacey (Matthew) Hartley, Noel (Josh) Gill, and Braelyn Nelson; great-grandchildren, Jyrdan (Carson) Rogers, Austin Palmour, Josh Taffin, Nathan Taffin, David Taffin, Tyson May, Katelyn Gill, Nathaniel Gill, Cole Gill, Jasper Barr, Kennedi Barr, Raegan Barr, Emmalyn Brandon, Wyatt Brandon, Molly Brandon, Saydee Low, Brecklee Low, and Ryleigh Hartley; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6th, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Rosser, Rev. Sam Snider, and Rev. David Taffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ellijay City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: David Taffin, Josh Taffin, Nathan Taffin, David Taffin, Tyson May, Josh Gill, Charles Palmour, Austin Palmour, and Braelyn Nelson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Food will be accepted; however, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gilmer CLC @183 Bobcat Trail or P.O. Box 471 Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Mrs. Nelson.
The family would like to give special thanks to Ogal's caregivers and CNA worker: Laura Grant, Roxanne Baudet, and Gail Henry.
