John Banks, age 62, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away June 23, 2026 at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
Born on February 29, 1964 in Ellijay, John was the son of Arnold Lee Banks and Betty Sue Banks Allen. He was a proud United States Navy veteran who served his country with honor and dedication. Following his military service, John built a life centered on family, friendship, and the values he held dear.
John found great joy in fishing and treasured the time he spent outdoors. He was a devoted member of Pickens Star Lodge No. 220 and was active in other fraternal organizations, where he formed many lifelong friendships and embodied the principles of brotherhood, service, and fellowship. Those who knew John will remember his generous heart, steady presence, and willingness to help others whenever needed.
John was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Lee Banks; stepmother, Margaret Banks; stepfather, Kenneth Allen, and mother-in-law, Ruby Heard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Regina Banks; his daughter, Rachel Banks; and his son, Mason Banks. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Sue Banks Allen; his sisters, Missy Tinnell (Gary) and Linda Burnett (Johnny); stepsister, Staci McClure (Greg); stepbrothers, Lee Pierce (Rhonda) and Shannon Pierce (Laurie); father-in-law, Robbie Heard; and brother-in-law, Richard Heard (Rebecca). He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
John's legacy of service, loyalty, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 2, 2026 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Pickens Star Lodge #220 in charge of Masonic rites. Interment will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, 2026 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Serving as pallbearers are Mason Banks, Derek Burnette, Rex Kirkpatrick, Zade Morgan, Shannon Pierce, and Kyle Tinnell-Hester.
The family will receive friends at Roper Funeral Home on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Roper Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
