Mr. Dartis Leon Newton, age 80 of Ellijay, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025.

Dartis was born on May 2, 1945, to the late Clearance Woodrow Newton and Susie Davenport Newton. And is preceded in death by brother; Billy Newton. He loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Crossroads Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, Dartis found great joy in hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. A skilled marksman, he even built his own shooting range. He was also a master beekeeper who took great pride in caring for his bees, as well as his beloved dogs and chickens. Above all, Dartis cherished his loving wife, Betty Sue, and deeply valued his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty Sue Newton, of the home; son, Mark Newton (Susan), Ellijay; sister, Betty Pruitt; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Newton (Megan), Ivy Newton, Trinity Newton; 4 great grandchildren, Gracie Newton, Easton Newton, Charity Newton, and Levi Newton, several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 14, at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Randy McClure, Rev. John Newton, and Rev. James Sevcech officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery. Music will be conducted by Harold Sanford. Pallbearers will be Eddie Bowen, Dale Corbin, Joey Patterson, Bo Sanford, Jeff Kiker, Brondy Davis, Curtis Easley, and Ryan Newton. Honorary pallbearers will be David Elliott, H.C. Williams, Brandon Kerr, and Harold Nelson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 14th, from 11:00 am until the service hour of 2:00 pm.

Flowers will be accepted; however, the family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home.
