Mr. Dexter Erwin Woody, age 60 of Ellijay, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 21st, 2025.

Mr. Woody was born on July 14, 1965, in Tate, Georgia, to Mr. John Edwin Woody and Ms. Saralene Burgess. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud pawpaw who found his greatest joy in spending time with his family. His role as dad and pawpaw was one he treasured deeply, and he rarely missed an opportunity to support and encourage those he loved.

He had a strong love for gospel music, which reflected his faith and brought him comfort and joy throughout his life. He was an avid supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs and took special pride in cheering on any sports team his grandchildren played on. He also enjoyed fishing, finding peace and relaxation in the simple moments spent outdoors.

Mr. Woody was the retired plant manager of Better Backers, where he was known for his strong work ethic, leadership, and dedication. He was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church of Ellijay. Mr. Woody is preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Lee Woody.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Mrs. Tammie Woody of Ellijay, GA; father, John Edwin Woody of Ellijay, GA; mother, Saralene Burgess of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Caleb (Rachel) Woody of Ball Ground, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Caitlin (Parker) Johnson of Talking Rock, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Edwina (Paul) Daman of Ellijay, GA; 4 grandchildren, Titus Woody, Abram Woody, Nora Johnson, and Evan Johnson, father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Charlotte Hedden, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mr. Woody will be held on Tuesday, December 23rd, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. from the Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. John Reece and Rev. Mickey Wheeler officiating. Vocals will be performed by Mr. Bobby Dale. Mr. Woody will be laid to rest in the church cemetery as the service is taking place. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Wesley Whitworth, Devan Hedden, Kyle Hedden, Justin Daman, Austin Daman, Paul Daman, Tim Hedden, and Tony Hedden.

There will be no public visitation held at the funeral home.

The family respectfully asks that no flowers be sent to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gilmer County FFA c/o Mr. Mike Bushey @ 408 Bobcat Trail, Ellijay, GA 30540, the Gilmer County Park and Recreation @ 1561 South Main St. Ellijay, GA 30540, or any foundation of your choice in memory of Mr. Dexter Woody.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his faith, his kindness, and the steady presence he was to those who knew him.
