Dorthy Marie Hensley Rittenberry, aged 85, of Talking Rock, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Rittenberry was born on November 26, 1938 in the Town Creek area of Gilmer County to the late Clifford Lorenzo Hensley and Katie Mary Smith Hensley. She was a member of Whitestone Baptist Church for 69 years. She loved to grow a garden and to take her family on a tour of her flower beds. She was a great seamstress and made quilts, clothes, wedding dresses, Halloween costumes, and doll clothes for her children and grandchildren. She loved to feed her family and will be remembered for her biscuits, pound cake, cornbread, okra, and mashed potatoes. She also loved singing with her sisters at church. And more than anything, she loved her family and serving the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rittenberry is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Jimmy Thomas Rittenberry and her sister, Elaine Hensley Logan.
She is survived by her children, Arlene and Ricky Bryan of Ellijay, Larry and Dale Rittenberry of Shell Point, Florida, Garry and Brenda Rittenberry of Talking Rock, Randy and Charlene Rittenberry of Lake Arrowhead; sisters, Betty and Billy Reese, Mary Logan, Evelean and Deryl Hyde; grandchildren, Peri and Tony Chastain, Daniel Rittenberry, Jennifer and Robert Burton, Stephanie and Matthew Watkins, Jessica and Reid Cochran, Megan and Brett Hastings, Amber and Myles Mulkey, Amy Roberson; great-grandchildren, Owen and Gavin Moss, Landon and Alli Burton, Learh and Cash Rittenberry, Lena Cochran, Evelyn Mulkey, Henry and Rose Evans.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2024 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Banks, Reverend Mark Johnson, and Reverend John Reece officiating. Interment will follow in the Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Tony Chastain, Landon Burton, Gavin Moss, Owen Moss, Matthew Watkins, and Myles Mulkey.
The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 4, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
Flowers and food will be accepted.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
