Ermel David Wright, 78, of Ellijay, Georgia passed away at home on October 9th, 2024. He was born on December 24, 1945 in Canton, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents Steve and Mary Wright of Ellijay, Georgia.
David was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Social Work. After attending Naval Officer Candidate School, Mr. Wright served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Jr. Grade during the Vietnam War. During his life he worked as a farmer, business owner, and retired from the State of Georgia as the Director of Environmental Health for Lumpkin County. David also had fond memories of his time working on fishing boats in Alaska.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Wright of Ellijay, Georgia, along with his children: Zachary Wright, Ellijay, Georgia; Jill Wright, Ball Ground, Georgia; and Jacob (Anna) Wright, Springfield, Virginia. David leaves behind three precious grandchildren who were his pride and joy and affectionately called him "Pop" - Harrison and Lily Richards, Ball Ground, Georgia; and Wyatt Wright, Springfield, Virginia. He is also survived by his brother Tommy (Maria) Wright, Ellijay, Georgia, as well as his niece Wendy Dekker, nephew Steve Wright, and great niece Addison Richards all of Ellijay, Georgia. David will be dearly missed by his many cousins and friends.
Graveside Services for Mr. Wright will be held on Monday October 14th at 2pm at the Tickanetley Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Kelly Smith and Rev. Emuel Sanford officiating. Military Honors will be held by the US Navy.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, October 14th from 10am until the service hour at 2pm.
