Mr. Faires Carter Hensley, age 93 of Chatsworth, passed away on Sunday, January 28th, 2024.

Mr. Hensley was born on January 27th, 1931 in Gilmer County to the late Grady Hensley and and the Doshia Goble Hensley. Faires proudly served our nation in the United States Air Force where he retired as a diesel mechanic.

Faires was a retired Air Force veteran having served two combat tours in Korea and two combat tours in Vietnam. He was well known throughout North Georgia as a talented diesel mechanic. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, an interesting book and friendly conversation. He was an honest straightforward man who was curious and constantly learning. He could engage you in conversation about any topic. His interests ranged from mechanical to mathematical from historical to geographical from bluegrass to woodworking. He would often ask loaded questions, and would grin while you tried to come up with the answer. Faires was a generous soul, constantly giving. If you had asked him for a shirt he would have insisted that you take a jacket as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce Silvers Hensley, and his brother Sherman Hensley.

He is survived by his daughter Sheila Maddux (David), grandchildren Brynn Sims (Stuart), Lauren Bice (Jason), Rebekah Maddux, Layla Amann (CJ), Jeremiah Maddux (Serena), ten great-grandchildren, sister Geneva Davis, brothers Herman Hensley (Jill), and Clay Hensley (Lottie) a number of nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with David Maddux officiating. The United States Air Force will perform military rites. Interment will follow in the Berean Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Mike Hensley, Jesse Hensley, Darrell Davis, Jeremiah Maddux, Mike Williams, and Jason Bice.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Food and flowers will be accepted in memory of Mr. Faires Carter Hensley.

He was very loved and will be missed!
