Mrs. Frances Jones Mulkey McGill, age 89 of Ellijay, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24th, 2025 at her residence.
Mrs. McGill was born on June 24, 1936, in Ellijay, Georgia, to the late Floyd Jones and the late Bertha Watkins Jones. She was a woman of many talents and passions, known especially for her love of flowers and her exceptional skill in quilting, a craft she perfected over the years and generously shared with others. Mrs. McGill also found great joy in gardening. One of her favorite pastimes was riding motorcycles alongside her beloved husband, Fred, sharing many adventures together on the open road. Her life was deeply rooted in faith, and she attended First Baptist Church of Chatsworth and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ellijay, where she found strength, community, and purpose. She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the love she showed to all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her previous husband, Love Joseph Mulkey; daughter, Kathy Mulkey; and siblings, Willis Floyd Jones, William Everett Eldon Morgan, Prescott Estes, Roy Freeman, Venis Irene, Mary Lois, Minnie Lee, Bertha Mae, Bobby Carter, and Bertha Manning.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Mr. Fred McGill of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Tim (Cheryl) Mulkey of Ellijay, GA; step children, Ron McGill of Broken Arrow, OK, Shawn McGill of Dalton, GA, Tracy McGill of Fishers, IN, Stacy McGill of Woodsborro, MD, and Kimberly Infante of Baytown, TX; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Lowell (Imojean) Jones of Ellijay, GA and Max (Shirley) Jones of Jasper, GA; , GA; two grandchildren, Tyrel (Brook) Buttrum and Myles (Amber) Mulkey; three great-grandchildren, Braydon Buttrum, Kayden Buttrum, and Evelyn Mulkey, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. McGill will be held on Thursday, August 28th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Stover officiating. Graveside Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay, GA. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Larry Mulkey, Steve Tinker, Tyrel Buttrum, Brayden Buttrum, Myles Mulkey, and James McCarthy.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home of Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home and kindly requests no house plants. Cemetery flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Frances Jones Mulkey McGill.
