Obituary

Mr. Frank Joseph Sciarrone, Jr., age 92 of Powhatan, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026.

Mr. Sciarrone was born on May 4th, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Francis Joseph Sciarrone, Sr. and Carmela Immusa Sciarrone. He proudly and honorably served our nation in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he dedicated many years of his life to serving and protecting others as a retired Executive Protective Service Lieutenant with the United States Secret Service, where he carried himself with great professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty.

Mr. Sciarrone was a man of strong values, deep patriotism, and many talents. He was a novelist of many books, writing under the pen name of J. J. Shay.

He had a great love for the outdoors and found peace and enjoyment in fishing, and hunting.

He was especially gifted in making handcrafted knives, a hobby he took great pride in and enjoyed sharing with others. He was also an accomplished competitive shooter and respected by many for his skill, discipline, and steady nature.

Though he lived a life of service and accomplishment, his greatest legacy was the example he set through his hard work, loyalty, and love for family and friends. He will be remembered as a devoted patriot, a hardworking man, and someone who never met a challenge without strength and determination. His presence, wisdom, and stories will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sciarrone is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Phyllis Jane Given Sciarrone, and four siblings, John Sciarrone, Grace Tollin, Humbert "Sonny" Sciarrone, and Joan Chimalarski.

He is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Frances (Kevin) Scott of Ellijay, GA and Nina Sciarrone of Maryland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Sciarrone (Olga Newsome of Boynton Beach, FL and Joseph (Jenny) Sciarrone of Fresno, California; two sisters, Anita Bock and Marie Mahoney; four grandchildren and spouses, Robert (Katrina) Sciarrone, Michael (Stephanie) Sciarrone, Spencer (Meltem) Sciarrone, and Paula Francesca Sciarrone, and one great-grandchild, Bodhi Sciarrone also survives.
