Hattie Lee Whitmire, age 90 of Newnan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Hattie was born on May 18, 1935, to the late Kenley Townsend and Mime Mulkey Townsend. In her fulfilling life, Gardening was Hattie's joy in life as well as her love to dance. She loved being with her neighbor's children, spending time with her grandchildren and also her beloved cats.

In addition to her parents, Hattie is preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Henderson, brother Doc Sanford, along with her grandsons, Heath Wimpey and Robert Denson Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Mr. Leeroy Whitmire; daughters, Betty Hambrick of Newnan, Yvonne (Danny) Harbour of Newnan and Yvette (Robert) Denson of Jackson; sons, Kevin (Michelle) Wimpey of Newnan, Keith (Lauren) Wimpey of Newnan, Kyle Wimpey of Newnan, Eric Wimpey of Grantville and Evan (Tia) Whitmire of Franklin along with her grandchildren, various nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dustin Denson in the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home in Ellijay. Burial will follow at Ellijay City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm.
