Mr. James Walter "Wally" Smith, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Mr. Smith was born February 6, 1947, in Whitfield County to the late Homer Woodrow Smith and Ethel Lee Fortner Smith.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and spent his career with United Parcel Service. He was a member of Welcome Gap Baptist Church in Sugar Valley. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his five sisters: Johnnie Sellers, Jo Ann Smith, Charlene Smith, Judy Nix, and Nellie Smith.

Survivors include: his wife, Evealine Smith; son James Hilton Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Chris Mucha; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Ruthie Smith and Martin and Patti Smith; one grandchild, Dayton Mucha; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil Townley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include: Dayton Mucha, Casey Smith, Wallace Anderson, Dennis Ralston, George Ralston, and Steve Ralston.

The family would especially like to thank the caregivers, medical, and administrative staff for their gracious and loving care.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bernhardt Funeral Home. The family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Smith may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Dennis Ralston @ 117 River Lane, Ellijay, GA 30536.
