Mrs. Karen King Driskell died Saturday August 31, 2024 at her home in Ellijay, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Karen told her family, "I lived a long and sweet life, I don't need anything, I am content." She was born on June 15, 1954 in Atlanta, Ga.
She was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design in 1977. Karen used her passion and creativity throughout the course of her adult life as a Design consultant in private industry both in Florida and Georgia before joining Bauder College in Atlanta as an instructor and Chairman of the Design Dept for over 20 years.
Upon moving to Ellijay, Karen enjoyed volunteering for events at Harrison Park and providing input to the Downtown Development Authority. She also continued to work part-time in her chosen field of interior design for friends, family and private clients.
She is preceded in death by her parents Paul King Sr. and Betty Hopkins King.
Karen is survived by her husband, Ed Driskell; sons, Tyler Driskell and Griffin Driskell; brother, Paul King, and sister Jill Riggs.
Karen was a loving wife to Ed for 46 years and a wonderful mother to her two sons. She was generous, patient, loving, friendly and talkative. Karen maintained lifelong friendships from high school, her days at UGA, where she was a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and so many more along the way. These friendships have not only continued but grown stronger over the years. She will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home, 163 River Street, Ellijay GA.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 14th from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour of 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
