Mrs. Kathey Omega (Chastain) Rice, age 76 of Cherry Log, GA; passed away on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.

Mrs. Rice was born on February 26th, 1948 in Silva, North Carolina to the late John Oscar "J.O." Chastain and the late Katy (Bradley) Chastain. Kathey was a member of the Cherry Log Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Rice loved her pets and reading her bible. In addition to her parents, Kathey is preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Eugene Rice who passed on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Karen (Alex) Henson of Ellijay and Rebecca (Mitchell) Reed of Blue Ridge, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth (Noleta) Chastain; sister, Rosa Jones; four grandchildren, Ashley Cameron, Nicholas Reed, Nicole Starnes, and Kelly Henson; three great-grandchildren, Lyra Cameron, Weston Starnes, and Isla Cameron; sisters-in-law, Modean Rice, Pauline Ware, Helen Rice, and Betty McKinney; brother-in-law, Max Ware; special neighbors, Jessica Hensley and the boys and Scott and Jenna Wolfe, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Jones, Rev. Ricky Brown, and Rev. Jamie Kerr officiating. The Turniptown Baptist Church Choir will sing. Graveside Interment will follow in the Cherry Log Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will be serving as Pall Bearers: J.W. Chastain, Jeff Chastain, William Chastain, Jeff Cameron, Ricky Rice, and Joe Bouhl. Honorary Pall Bearers: Nicholas Reed, and Wyatt Starnes.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 11th, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour of 3:00 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted; however, the family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International in memory of Mrs. Kathey Rice.
