Obituary

Kathleen Grace Davenport, age 92, of Ellijay, GA, peacefully went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her children, on Oct 1, 2024. Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who dedicated her life to her family and her faith. She lived with grace, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to serving others.

Kathy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Davenport, with whom she shared 65 years of a beautiful marriage and ministry partnership, her parents Dewey and Vesta Reece, sister Sue Page, and brother-in-law, Carol Page and son-in-laws Robert Wright, Gary Burnette, and Larry Barnette. As a devoted preacher's wife, she stood faithfully beside Don in his pastoral work, offering unwavering support, wisdom, and encouragement. Kathy's role extended far beyond the pews; she opened her home and heart to countless individuals, sharing the gospel through her words, actions, and the warmth of her hospitality.

A woman of many talents, Kathy was known for her incredible resourcefulness and creativity. She had a gift for making something special out of very little, a testament to her practical nature and keen sense of stewardship. As a skilled seamstress, her hands could turn simple fabric into beautiful garments, quilts, and handmade treasures that were cherished by family and friends alike. Her creations—crafted with love and intention—reflected her meticulous care and served as reminders of her dedication and love for those around her.

But more than anything, Kathy was defined by her servant's heart and deep faith in Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord with all her heart and shared that love freely with everyone she encountered. A true prayer warrior, she never hesitated to bow her head in prayer, whether for family, friends, or strangers and diligently prayed for each family member by name every single day. Her Bible, worn and well-read, was her guide and anchor, and she drew strength from its pages for herself and for those she loved.

Kathy is survived by her six beloved children, Gail (Norman) Williams, Judy Wright, Marsha Burnette, Lynn Barnette, Toni (Vick) Cassidy, Alan (Tammy) Davenport, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson and sister Martha (Harold) Simmons Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she poured her love and prayers into each of them. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the scent of something wonderful cooking on the stove—hallmarks of a life lived in service and love.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 4th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Ellijay, Where friends and loved ones will gather to honor and celebrate Kathy's remarkable life.
