Lanny Chastain, age 76, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away Friday, September 11, 2026 at Piedmont Mountainside Ellijay. Lanny was born August 22, 1950 to William Junior and Ethel Mae Chastain in Murray County.

Lanny is survived by his wife, Elaine Chastain of Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Branson and Jill Chastain of Ellijay, Brent and Trina Chastain of Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Matt Hefner of Chatsworth; grandchildren, Aliza Chastain, Andrew Chastain; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hilda Dotson of Ellijay, Angie and Robert Reed of Ellijay, Juanita and Earnest Jones of Chatsworth; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bobbie Chastain of Ellijay, Harold Stover of Mableton, Catherine Davis of Ellijay, Hollis Stover of Buford, Hoke and Cathie Aaron of Ellijay, Brenda Sue Hardin of Ellijay, Leon and Linda Parks of Ellijay, Larry and Mary Stover of Ellijay, Karen and Carroll Holbrooks of Ellijay, Buster and Vickie Stover of Ellijay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Ethel Chastain; and brother, Harold Chastain.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2026 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Reverend Sam Rickett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andrew Chastain, Matt Hefner, Carter Jones, Matt Gibbs, Greg Griggs, Tommy Pankey, Buster Stover, and Marty Pankey. Nephews and close friends will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will be receiving friends at Bernhardt Funeral Home, Sunday, September 13, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday, September 14, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
