Obituary

Mrs. Lyndia Margarita Smith, age 73 of Ellijay, GA, passed away on Wednesday, March 11th, 2026.

Mrs. Smith was born on January 3rd, 1953 in Douglassville, GA to the late Daniel Johnson and the late Ester Inez Orr Johnson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by two sisters, Gail Fowler and Virginia Rabern.

Mrs. Lyndia Smith loved cats, her family, and the Lord. She worked as a medical laboratory technician at WellStar Cobb Hospital, where she built many meaningful friendships and truly loved the people she worked with. Mrs. Smith had a special appreciation for flowers and the beauty of nature, and she found great joy in caring for the cats she loved so dearly. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully attended Revolution Church in Jasper, Georgia. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to those she loved, and the warmth she shared with those around her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Marcus Smith of Ellijay, GA; two daughters and son-in-law, Katie (Lyndon) Mayfield of Ellijay, GA and Christie Smith of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Frances Landers of Perry, GA, and two grandchildren, Brynna Mayfield and Georgia Mayfield also survive.

Graveside Services to honor the life of Mrs. Smith will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. from the Yukon Cemetery at 132 John Call Road, Ellijay, GA with Pastor David Stein officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13th, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers and food will be accepted in memory of Mrs. Lyndia Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a cat rescue via PayPal at @kristencaresforcats.
