Obituary

Carol Lynn Perry, age 62 of Ellijay, GA, died January 21, 2026 at her home.

She was born October 15, 1963, to the late Philip Cox Perryll and Betty Jo Simmons Perry.

She graduated from Campbell High School, received an AFA Fine Arts from Reinhardt College, and a BA English/International Relations from Oglethorpe University.

She received the Sidney Lanier Poetry Award twice, wrote for both the Reinhardt and Oglethorpe newspapers and literary magazines, and served an internship as a staff writer at the Southern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments.

Lynn spent the majority of her career as a technical writer, working for Leader Systems, Prentice Hall, PACS Software, American Book Company and Call Center Technologies.

After moving back to Ellijay, Lynn worked as an English teacher at Darrington Academy, for Gilmer County Family Connection, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ellijay, and most recently as a Real Estate Agent for Coldwell Banker High Country Reality.

She wrote a weekly column, Lynn's Zen, for several small newspapers and magazines in the North Ga area, including the Times-Courier in Ellijay, Georgia and Mountain Peeks magazine based out of Kennesaw Georgia.

Lynn is survived by her mother, Betty Jo Simmons Perry, daughter, Hannah Chambers, sister Cindy Perry Corn, and nephews Benjamin and Miles Corn.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 8th at 2 pm from the Ellijay First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8th from 1 pm until the service at the church.

The family requests that donations be made to The Gilmer Community Food Pantry in lieu of flowers. The family also requests no food, but would appreciate a note with a favorite memory of Lynn instead.
