Mrs. Martha Ann Abney Trotter, age 82 of Ellijay, passed away on Sunday, January 14th, 2024 at the Grace Living Personal Care Home in Marietta after a hard-fought battle with Dementia for 10 years.

Mrs. Trotter was born on April 29th, 1941 in Kennesaw, to the late Paul Abney and Bessie Adair Abney. She was the third of seven children. Mrs. Trotter was an Ellijay Master Gardener and a member of the Ellijay Garden Club. She was also a long-standing member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Pleasant Grove Ladies Hospitality Committee. Before moving to Ellijay, Mrs. Trotter was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta. She also enjoyed square dancing with her husband, Gene. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Trotter is preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her husband, Oliver Eugene "Gene" Trotter; son, David Trotter of Acworth; daughter, Christina (Ed) Novellas of Smyrna; brother, James Abney of Kennesaw; sister, Melba Blackwood of Kennesaw; four grandchildren, Katy Beth (Jon) Sirokman, James David Trotter, Natalie Novellas, and Stephanie Novellas; and one great-grandchild, Maddy Kate Sirokman also survives.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 12:00 PM from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Rosser officiating. A private interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with a reception to follow the service.

Mrs. Trotter will lie-in-state at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church from 11:00 AM until the service hour of 12:00 PM.

Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org . The family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the church.
