Maryanne Smith
Grable
Aug 23, 1954 — Mar 25, 2025
Ellijay
MaryAnne Smith Grable, age 70, of Ellijay, GA passed peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 25th, 2025 with her husband Bill and her Golden Retriever Kody at her side.
MaryAnne was born August 23, 1954 in Brooklyn, NY to Sidney and Joan Curtin Smith.
She was the fourth of ten children. She was raised in Brewster, NY, then later met her husband, Bill C. Grable, while working at Friendly's Restaurant. That is where Bill's sister met MaryAnne and promptly informed Bill that she had met his future wife.
Bill and MaryAnne married in 1974 and enjoyed over 50 years together. She loved to travel and was able to enjoy more than 50 cruises with Bill and often with other family members as well. She loved her family, near and far, and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them. Her smile and the laughter lit up every room. She was always ready with a bit of wit and humor.
Her genuine love was also reflected in the way she loved her animals, and they loved her.
MaryAnne worked for and retired from the IBM Company where, very early in her career, she was one of the first women certified to work on typewriters. She often spoke of the changes she saw in typewriters and technology through the years.
Along with her career, she also served in Florida as an advocate for wheelchair and other accessible parking spaces, restaurant/ building access, to bring awareness of needs for the disabled community. She and Bill understood the need for such advocacy and served their community well.
She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her older brother, Tom Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband Bill, of the home,
Sisters, JoAnne Taylor, Katherine Ware, Sheila Smith, Judy Conero, Aileen Knapp,
