Mr. Michael Cantrell, age 71 of Ellijay, passed away on Tuesday, January 31 ^st , 2023 at his residence.

Mr. Cantrell was born on December 7 ^th , 1951 in Cherokee County to the late Hiram Jackson Cantrell and Emma Lee Hughes Cantrell.

Mr. Cantrell was a graduate of the Cherokee High School, Class of 1969. He worked for the US Post Office as a Rural Mail Carrier, but he was more than just a mail carrier. Michael always checked on his postal people as he was on his route; he knew everything about all of them. Michael cared for his people and made a special relationship with each of them. Working at the postal office was more than just a job, it was what he loved.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantrell is preceded in death by two brothers; Benson Cantrell and Jackie Cantrell, and two sisters, Jean Huey and Anne Atkins.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sara Chastain Cantrell; one sister, Martha Hyde of Woodstock; brother-in-law, Jim and Karen Chastain of Hixson, TN; sister-in-law, Patricia Chastain; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 5 ^th at 2:00 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Smith and Rev. Joey Phillips, and Rev. Wayne Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4 ^th from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Food and Flowers will be accepted in memory of Mr. Michael Cantrell.
