Obituary

Mrs. Opal Martin Corbin, age 92, of Ellijay, passed away on August 18th, 2026, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, GA.

Opal was born December 23rd, 1933, in Gilmer County, GA, the daughter of the late Orlando Martin and Essie Parks. Opal was a cherished member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for 72 years. She also served as clerk and treasurer of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for 32 years. She also worked at the voting polls for Mountaintown precinct for over 20 years. She was a loving wife for over 72 years, a caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Opal is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Charles Corbin; her sons and daughter-in-law, Rex Corbin (Trina) and Dale Corbin (Melesa); her brother, Malcolm Martin, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren, Tyler Corbin and Macy Corbin Bunch; 1 great-grandchild, Ryan Bell Corbin.

Funeral services to honor the life of Mrs. Corbin will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Gibbs III, Rev. David Nicholson, and Rev. Keith Raper officiating. Ronald and Linda Hyde, as well as D.L. Banks Family, will provide music for the service. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyler Corbin, Jon Bunch, Greg Martin, Tommy Patrick, Kenneth Martin, and Richard Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Barnes, Mark Knuckles, Cohen Patrick, Robert Gudger, and Weston Patrick.

The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm, and again on Thursday, August 20th, from 9:00 am until the service hour of 2:00 pm, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or the Gilmer Christian Learning Center (CLC) in memory of Mrs. Opal Corbin.
