Obituary

Mrs. Reva Halena Withrow, age 88 of Ellijay, GA, passed away on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025 at her residence.

Mrs. Reva Withrow was born on September 9th, 1936, to the late Kermit Dalrymple and Mae Kilpatrick Dalrymple. She was a proud member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Ellijay, GA. Throughout her life, Reva held numerous jobs, each reflecting her dedication and work ethic. She worked at the Clerk of Court's office in Marietta, at Blue Ridge Carpet, and served as secretary under Sheriff Billy Bernhardt at the Gilmer County Sheriff's Office.

Of all her roles, the one closest to her heart was her work with the Family and Children's Services. It was there that she found her true calling—caring for children. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to 66 foster children, providing them with love, stability, and support.

In addition to her parents, Reva is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Buford Withrow; son, John Wesley Withrow; sons-in-law, David Davenport and Mike Gibbs; and sister, Evelyn Rogers.

She is survived by sister, Brenda Thomas; brother, Lee Roy Dalrymple; children, Sabrina Davenport, Halena Gibbs, Bill (Jennifer) Withrow, and Ricky (Amberly) Walker; daughter-in-law, Anita Withrow; grandchildren, Josh Davenport, Sarah Henderson, Jason Teague, Matt (Whitney) Teague, Holli Gibbs, Angie Gibbs, Lexie Withrow, Nate Withrow, Aubreigh, Chloey, and Harleigh, and many great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Withrow will be held on Friday, August 8th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from the New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Davenport officiating. Kendra Davenport, Kacy Marick, and Vanessa Beavers will perform the vocals. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Josh Davenport, Billy Messer, Ricky Walker, Freddy Thomas, Clinton Davenport, and Jason Teague.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 7th, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home or the church. Flowers will be accepted; however, they kindly ask that no live potted flowers/green plants be brought to the funeral home. In lieu of these, donations may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Mr. Edgar Land @ 77 Bob Pinson St. Ellijay, GA 30540.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Kacy Marick for her weekly meals and visits; to Reva's cousin, Sue West, for her many thoughtful visits filled with food and conversation; and to her dear friend, Nancy Luca, for the countless meals, sweet treats, and shared laughter each week. A special thanks also to Alan and Kendra Davenport, Bryan Troglin, Glenda Dalrymple, Edgar and Barbara Land, and her wonderful neighbors, Lou and Dorsey, for their many visits, kindness, and generous offerings of food.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Appalachian Hospice and their compassionate staff for the exceptional care and support they provided. Special thanks go to Vickie Franklin, Sharon Davis, Rita Cochran and Lindsey Cloer, caregivers, who served as devoted caretakers. Their kindness, dedication, and selfless care will always be remembered with gratitude.

Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay is entrusted with these arrangements.
