Mr. Robert Carl Burdick, age 89 of Ellijay, GA, passed away on Thursday, June 18th, 2026.

Mr. Burdick was born on August 26, 1936, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-36. During his military service, he participated in a record-setting flight around the border of the United States in January 1957, lasting more than 42 hours. Following his service, he earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed flying throughout his life.

A gifted builder and craftsman, Mr. Burdick spent much of his career constructing power plants, apartment complexes, business offices, and private residences. Together with his beloved wife, he built homes for their family in Dade City, Florida, Hamilton, Montana, and Ellijay, Georgia, where they made their home for the past 29 years.

Mr. Burdick was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and adventure. He was especially passionate about sailing and fulfilled a lifelong dream by building a 40-foot cutter-rigged sailboat, The Better Way, from a set of plans over a period of 21 months. He and Sharon later sailed the Leeward and Windward Islands aboard the vessel, creating memories they cherished throughout his life.

Known for his creativity, intelligence, and quick wit, Mr. Burdick had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. A talented writer, he authored numerous articles and published three books. He was also a devoted ham radio enthusiast who enjoyed communicating with others around the world and earning advanced radio licenses.

Mr. Burdick was widely respected for his extensive knowledge of firearms and his dedication to promoting safe firearm handling. He earned a Lifetime Master Classification in Competitive Outdoor Pistol and was a member of the Florida Pistol Team in 1967.

Most importantly, Mr. Burdick loved his church and his faith. He faithfully served as an elder and as a leader in the church's safety and security ministry. He will be remembered for his strong faith, adventurous spirit, sharp sense of humor, and the many lives he touched through his service, friendship, and love.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mrs. Sharon Burdick of Ellijay, GA; two sons, Danny Cooper of FL and David Cooper of Nashville, TN; daughter, Cheryl Marie Kovalik of Brooksville, FL; brother, Ken Burdick of Dade City, FL; sister, Carla Sheldon of FL, and one grandaughter, Lindsey Kovalik.

In accordance to Mr. Burdick's wishes, he will be cremated and services will be announced in the near future. He will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at a later date.
