Mr. Romie Cox, age 88 of Gainesville, passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2024 at Northside Hospital Forsyth, in Cumming, Georgia.
Mr. Cox was born on December 18th, 1935, in Morganton, to the late Robert Cox and Callie Tipton Cox. He proudly served in the United States Army and worked as a military policeman while in the service. Later, Mr. Cox worked as a personnel director for Southeastern Freight Lines for 22 years and Terminal Manager for Carolina Freight Lines for 20 years. He was a member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church and loved The Lord. He was an avid Bible reader and completed it a remarkable 20 times. Romie was the Greatest Dad in the world, always putting his family first. He was hard-working and a caring and helpful man. His daughter and family were blessed to have him live with them for 2 1/2 years and enjoyed sharing extra time with him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his wife, Carlene Reece Cox; son, Steve Cox and brother Charlie Cox.
Survivors include his daughter, Sandy (Steve) Sherer of Gainesville; four grandchildren, Brandon Sherer, Lindsey Sherer, Drew Cox, and Lauren (Terry) Clendening; and one great-grandchild also survives.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 10th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dotson officiating. Interment will follow in Yukon Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will be Scott Tipton, Brandon Sherer, Scott Anderson, Steve Sherer, Frank Tipton, and Cade Evans.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Flowers, and food will be accepted in memory of Mr. Romie Cox.
