Selma Lee Young Helton, 88, passed to be with our Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2024 with her loving daughter-in-law, Lydia, by her side. Selma was born March 18, 1936 to the late Herman and Lucille (Atkins) Young. Selma was a life long resident of Cherry Log, Georgia
and member of Cherry Log Baptist Church.

Selma was a very hard-working and dedicated person. She worked at Candlewick, Robert Shaw and worked well into her 70's at Walmart where she met many friends. She loved her computer and met many friends through it. She and her sister, Trudy, traveled to England to meet in person a couple she had met through the computer. She had a great sense of humor and was known by many children at church as the lady with a stick of gum or piece of candy to give them. She was generous in spirit and in life. Selma gifted each of her many nieces and nephews with their first iron skillet (for the girls) and overalls (for the boys) when they were born. She loved all children but especially her grand babies and great-grand babies. She was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years.

Selma is preceded in death by her parents, Lucille (Atkins) and Herman Young, her brothers, Charles Young (2022) and Eugene Young (2008) and sisters-in-law, Billie Young (2013) and Joyce Young (2022).

She is survived by her son, Randy (Lydia), grandchildren, Jessie Hall (Jason) and Jared Helton (Todd Compton) and great grandchildren, Laila Helton and Cali Hall, her sister, Trudy Page LeFlore and brother, Jerry Young (Pat). Selma has eight nieces and nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews and fourteen great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at the Rock Creek Baptist Church on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kenny Hagin and Rev. Tony Gilbert officiating. The Rock Creek Baptist Church Choir will sing with the Order of the Eastern Star concluding the services. Graveside Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Talking Rock, Georgia. The following gentlemen will be serving as pall bearers: Jared Helton, Jason Hall, Larry Yarbray, Joey Young, Steve Huffman, and Tim Underwood. Her special neighbors will be serving as honorary pall bearers: Mr. Riley Underwood and Ms. Rayni Underwood.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 7th, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The following day, Monday, July 8th, 2024, Mrs. Helton will lie-in-state at the Rock Creek Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour of 2:00 p.m.

Flowers will be accepted; however, the family respectfully asks that no food be brought to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rock Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in c/o Bro. Mark Hice at 202 Bates Rd. Ellijay, GA 30540.
