Obituary

Garnet Cleveland (Steve) Doughty

November 1, 1940 – April 6th, 2023

Extraordinary people have a way of being that inspires and commands respect. They energize you with their wisdom and infuse your life and every situaton with hope, humor, and friendship. The world lost a bright light on April 6th, when Steve Doughty left this earth. His light was like a blazing ball of fire straight from the sun in the body of a Ringmaster with his life being the Greatest Show on Earth. The stories he told of his life were always comical and extraordinary. He always told us that, when his time comes, we better not have a sad funeral with lots of crying. He said repeatedly, that if we did this, he would get out of the casket and walk out. He wanted a party.

He loved good times, dancing, humor, family, friends and just life in general. To know him was to love him or want to die of embarrassment next to him. With no filter, no modesty, and nerves of steel, he would make you laugh until tears were rolling, or, you would want to crawl desperately under the table so as not to be associated with his antics. Steve earned a law degree from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta and has been a very active Mason in multiple Masonic lodges for the past 25+ years.
