Obituary

Suelle Reece Austin age 80, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21st at Pathfinders Christian Church with Rev. Dr. Ronny Spillers officiating. An additional service will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ellijay, Georgia with burial to follow in the church cemetery.


Mrs. Austin was born in Ellijay, Georgia on September 7, 1942, to the late Homer and Audell Southern Reece. She was a graduate of Gilmer High School and North Georgia College where she earned her BA in Education in 1964. She then attended Western Carolina University where she earned her MA in Education with an emphasis in Social Sciences in 1969. Mrs. Austin was a retired Teacher and taught at Central State Hospital, Baldwin High School and Volunteered at John Hancock Academy. She taught Sunday School for her entire adult life and was a very active member of Pathfinders Christian Church.


She is preceded in death by her husband William Edsel Austin, and a sister Melba Reece Mabry.


Survivors include her children Patsy (Pepsi) McCaskill (Lonnie Gerald), and Chris Austin (Angel), grandchildren Loni, Arminda and Austin McCaskill (Amber), Olivia, Remington, Renee, Michael, Elizabeth, Colt, Anderson, Hunter, Madison, and Raley Austin, great grandchildren William, Alex, Abbott, and AJ. McCaskill, nephew Joe Mabry (Lisa), niece Jill Chastain (Branson), great nephews and niece Luke Mabry, Aliza and Andrew Chastain and brother-in-law Colin Austin.


The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.


The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions may be made to Pathfinders Christian Church 120 Earnest Byner St, Milledgeville, Ga 31061 or Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 84 River Ridge, Ellijay Ga. 30536.
