Obituary

Mr. Terrance Roylance, age 83 of Ellijay, GA, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Mr. Roylance was born July 10, 1942, in Miami, FL, to the late Floyd and Eleanor Cook Roylance. He was born to serve. First as a member of the Boy Scouts, reaching Eagle Scout and the Order of the Arrow followed by military service in the US Army and Army Reserves Corp of Engineers. He served in the Pentagon during the Cuban Missile Crisis and even filed a patent while a member of the Army. He then received a degree in Architecture from the University of FL. He went on to start a family and his own Architectural firm in Asheville NC. He continued to serve by becoming a scout leader, a mentor for JA, a coach for youth sports, and a longtime member of Kiwanis International. He later accepted a job as a senior project manager for an Architectural firm in Atlanta GA. A job that allowed him to travel the US and the world working on everything from nuclear facilities, level 5 containment research developments and even masques. He and his family joined Acworth United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including coach for adult recreational sports. He particularly loved volleyball and softball. He will be well remembered for showing up to coach his ladies' softball team on Sundays after church in his shorts and dress socks. Here he also developed his love of singing in the choir.  After retirement he and Margaret moved to Ellijay, GA where they became members of the Ellijay First United Methodist Church. He continued to serve in his new church and sing in the choir until he was no longer physically able. Terry loved to read, to garden, to feed the birds, and raise honeybees. He also enjoyed just sitting and watching nature thrive out of his large front window. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Dunlap, and sister, Patricia Kingston, and brother Steve Roylance.

Survivors include son, John Thomas Roylance (Bonnie), of Fisher, IN; daughter, Susan Tolbert (Charles), of Taylorsville, GA; brother, Tim Roylance (Lorraine), of Charleston, SC; sister, Rebecca Finch, of Hendersonville, NC; sister in-law, Lauralie Vincent Roylance, of Ellijay, GA; 2 grandchildren, Logan Tolbert (Savanah) and Katherine Tolbert Bryant( Joshua); great grandchild, Tatum Jeanne Bryant.

Graveside inurement will be held Friday, September 26th at 10 am from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, www.alzheimers.org. in memory of Mr. Roylance.
