Mr. Thomas Nelson Mathis Sr., age 92 of Ellijay, passed away on Saturday March 5 ^th , 2022 at Manor Lake Assisted Living.

Mr. Mathis was born in Atlanta on January 17 ^th , 1930 to the late Roland Bryan Mathis and Kate Hamby Mathis. Mr. Mathis was retired from the Cobb County Board of Education, where he served as the Associate Superintendent for Cobb County Schools. Mr. Mathis played a vital role in education in Cobb County which led to a PTA Council being named after him in his honor. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Mathis; three sons, Tom Mathis (Casey), Hank Mathis (Patricia), and Russ Mathis (Cathy); three grandchildren that he was very proud of, Katherine Vantosh, Bryan Mathis, and Megan Morris; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Millie Mathis.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday March 10 ^th , 2022 at 4 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Kelly officiating. A private interment service will be held. Pallbearers include, Hank Mathis, Russ Mathis, Bryan Mathis, David Horne, Marcus Mouchet, and Steve Harrington.

The family will receive friends on Thursday March 10 ^th from 1:30 PM until 3:30 PM at the church.
