Tommy Lynn Lowery, age 93, left his earthly home on April 22, 2025, for his eternal home in heaven, the one promised to all believers.

Born on August 16, 1931, in Whitfield County, Georgia, Tommy was the son of William Griffin Lowry and Mildred Robertson Lowry. After the early passing of his parents, he was lovingly raised by his grandmother Esther Lowry and uncles Philip and Doyle Lowry. Later, he was cared for by his aunt, Wilma Kerr. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy for four and a half years during the Korean War.

In 1953, Tommy began a career with AT&T and married the love of his life, the beautiful Mary Jo Huskey. Together, they built a life that took them across several states as his career progressed, raising two amazing boys along the way. After more than 30 years with AT&T, he retired and settled in Ellijay, Georgia, where he embraced a new life full of purpose—growing apples, Christmas trees, and raising cattle, as well as giving his time to numerous volunteer efforts.

Tommy's humble beginnings instilled in him a lifelong desire to serve others. His generous spirit led him on mission trips to Mexico, volunteering with Mountain Top Boys Home, building beds for Murphy-Harpst Children's Center, and supporting his church's local outreach program, G.R.A.S.P. (Gilmer Relief and Service Project). He served as a Cub Scout leader in Roswell and was an active member of the Lion's Club in Ellijay for many years.

A faithful servant, Tommy taught adult Sunday School, was a Lay Leader for the Dalton District, helped rebuild the church parsonage after a fire, served on the building committee for his church, and contributed significantly to its landscaping.

Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of over 70 years, Mary Jo Lowery; sons Tommy Lynn Lowery Jr. and Joseph William Lowery; grandchildren Eric Lowery, Major Jason Lowery, Joseph Lowery Jr., and Heather Lowery; and great-grandchildren Eliana Lowery and Weston Lowery. He is also survived by his beloved cousins Jennifer Lowry and Susan Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Lamar Lowery, and several nieces and nephews.

Tommy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his unwavering faith, selfless service, and the immense love he held for his family.

Service will be held Sunday, May 4th at 2:00 PM, at Ellijay First United Methodist Church; 75 McCutchen St., Ellijay, GA.
