The sun was shining down on May 3, 2024, as Verla Mae Moore Daniel peacefully passed at the age of 87.

Verla was born May 4, 1936, in Ellijay, Georgia. At just four years old, Verla was preceded in death by her mother, Virgie Bramlett Moore. Verla was raised by her aunt, Della Bramlett, and three uncles who helped care for her. Verla graduated from Tallulah Falls Girls School and, upon graduating, moved to Atlanta.

While attending the Gator Bowl in December 1956, she met George Milam Daniel. The two were married on June 2nd of the following year. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where they shared an incredible life for 57 years.

Verla was a treasured wife, mother, Mimi, aunt, friend, and second mother to many. A dedicated employee, she worked at Barnes Freight Line before accepting a job at J. Smith Lanier, where she remained for the rest of her career. In 2002, she retired to be a full-time Mimi and chauffeur for her grandchildren.

Alongside her husband, Verla happily dedicated her time to the Carrollton Optimist Club, Carrollton City Schools Band Booster Club, and the Carrollton Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department. George and Verla were longtime members of the Carrollton Presbyterian Church.

Ever a conversationalist, Verla loved to talk and hated to miss a party. Her smile was most bright when being spun around the dance floor by George. Many of her summer days were spent on Lake Buckhorn, pulling her kids behind a ski boat. A loyal friend and confidant, many will recall kitchen table conversations with Verla full of concern and absent of judgement.

Her love for her family and friends permeated her being. She found purpose in others and will be dearly missed by many.

Verla is survived by her children, Jeff Daniel (Debbie), Mike Daniel (Angie), Christy Jennings (Jeff), and Kelley Daniel (Nathan); grandchildren, Kirk Denham, Laurel Gauthe, Joseph Daniel, Zachariah Daniel, Jeremiah Daniel, Erin Daniel, Abigale Daniel, Sara Daniel, Ben Daniel (MacKenzie), Rhett Daniel, Mason Daniel, Cooper Daniel, Jake Jennings, Carley Jennings, Chloe Culverhouse, and Blake Culverhouse; two great-grandsons, Clayton Daniel and Wyatt Daniel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, Verla was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Moore; loving husband, George Milam Daniel; and siblings, Cleo Farist, Fran Bower (John), and C.L. Moore (Monique).

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Verla's life on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 3:00 PM from the Carrollton Presbyterian Church. Her six grandsons and two great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. A celebration of life will follow at the Carrollton Chophouse.

Flowers are welcome. However, memorial contributions may also be made to the Carrollton Optimist Club or the Carrollton Presbyterian Church in Verla's memory.
