Mrs. Vernia Lee Cantrell Hathcock, age 98 of Ranger, GA, passed away on Saturday, July 11th, 2026 at her residence.

Mrs. Hathcock was born on January 28, 1928, in Roy, Georgia, to the late Herbert Cantrell and the late Loumanda Smith Cantrell. She was a devoted homemaker who faithfully cared for her family throughout her life and was of the Christian faith. Mrs. Hathcock enjoyed the simple blessings of life and will be remembered for her kind heart, witty spirit, and the love she shared with those around her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Robert Hathcock.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Joyce Bunch, Jackie (Christina) chastain, Jamie (Vickie) Chastain, Johnny Chastain, Judy Long, Roger (Teri) Chastain, David Chastain, Dorothy (Jerry) Hightower, Doris (Bill) Crouse, and Dannie (Debbie) Chastain, and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services to honor the life of Mrs. Hathcock will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Bro. Jackie Chastain, Bro. James Chastain, and Rev. Steve Fields officiating. Graveside Interment will follow in the Bunch Family Cemetery in Ludville, GA. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Anthony Chastain, Steven Chastain, Johnathan Chastain, Shayne Chastain, Jay Cantrell, Pumpkin, and Jeramiah Chastain. The following gentlemen will be serving as honorary pallbearers: Bub Hightower, Joseph Chastain, Andy Chastain, Dennis Greenway, and Tony Hightower.

The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m. at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.

Food and flowers will be accepted in memory of Mrs. Vernia Lee Hathcock.
