Mr. Wesley Leamon Thornton, age 81 of Elizabethton, TN, passed away on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Mr. Thornton was born on December 7th, 1942 in Gilmer County to the late Arthur Thornton and Sallie Myrtle Thornton. He was a member of the Sunlight Baptist Church in Ellijay, GA, and loved to garden and enjoy the outdoors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thornton is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Alice Ray Thornton, and four brothers, Arthur Thornton, John Wyman Thornton, Winston Thornton, and Jesse Walter Thornton.

He is survived by his son, John Thornton of Elizabethton, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Gina Ramirez (Salvador) Ponce of Elizabethton, TN; sister, Mary King of Benton, TN; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 9th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home. Graveside Interment will follow in the Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay, GA. Mr. Thornton's grandchildren will be serving as pall bearers. These include: Zachariah Thornton, Nolan Webster, Emily Thornton, William Thornton, Thomas Thornton, and Alan Holt.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8th, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. from 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Food and Flowers will both be accepted in memory of Mr. Wesley Leamon Thornton.
